As described on the CAS web site, the College requires collegial teaching evaluation for reappointment or promotion of tenure and teaching track faculty, and merit review of faculty and other instructional titles, including temporary teaching appointees.
These evaluations serve two purposes: 1) to provide benefits for the reviewee and department by identifying the individual's teaching contributions, by sharing teaching knowledge among colleagues, and by the improvement of teaching; and 2) to provide material for evaluation in merit, reappointment, and promotion/tenure reviews.
The College recommends that the department use the same method(s) for all evaluations so that uniform standards are applied. In no case, is it sufficient simply to note that the faculty member is a "good" teacher or to provide materials or data without analysis. The method(s) of collegial evaluation, the names of the evaluators, and the results must be reported for promotion and merit reviews.
Evaluators are assigned by the PMTC in the Autumn Quarter.
