LSB Equipment Labels

Purpose

LSB is designed to encourage and facilitate the sharing of resources when realistic. Part of this design was creating equipment benches and corridors that house common equipment. It is understood that labs may have certain pieces of equipment that they don’t feel comfortable sharing or will share but with some conditions. To help make these conditions clear, label templates will be made available to labs that they can fill in with relevant information.

Procedure

Labels will come in three colors with each color having an associated shape on it.

  • Green labels will have a circle on them and indicate the piece of equipment is freely shared with no conditions.
  • Yellow labels will have a diamond on them and indicate the piece of equipment may be available for sharing but with conditions. The contact person on the label should be spoken with before any use.
  • Red labels will have an octagon on them and indicate the equipment is not shared and shouldn’t be used by anyone outside of the owning lab.

Shared equipment, owned by the department, will have printed labels on them with the same kind of information on them.

It is expected that any shared equipment, whether labeled with green or yellow stickers, be treated with respect and cared for appropriately. If a piece of equipment stops working or has any issues, users are obligated to inform the contact person on the sticker immediately. All labs reserve the right to withdraw sharing privileges at any time so it is in everyone’s best interest to respect the equipment owners and the entire Biology community.

New labels can be obtained from the LSB Lab Services Manager via email.
