Several of our outstanding faculty members were recently recognized for their achievements and contributions to the UW and greater science communities. Congratulations to all!
- Adam Leaché was awarded the Distinguished Teaching Award in the UW 2022 Awards of Excellence. This year’s Awards of Excellence recipients are being recognized for achievements in teaching, mentoring, public service and staff support.
- Bille Swalla, Biology Professor, was awarded the Service Award by The Pan American Society for Evolutionary Developmental Biology. This prestigious award celebrates a colleague who has made exceptional contributions to the PASEDB and/or EvoDevo not strictly in research but also in teaching, education, outreach, critical service to PASEDB, or other aspects of serving our community.
- John Wingfield, Biology Professor Emeritus, was awarded the 2022 Loye and Alden Miller Research Award by the American Ornithological Society. The Loye and Alden Miller Research Award recognizes lifetime achievement in ornithological research.
- Estella Leopold, Biology Professor Emeritus, was awarded the Distinguished Career Award by The American Quaternary Association (AMQUA). AMQUA’s Distinguished Career Award recognizes a senior scientist who has contributed significantly and continuously to the advancement of Quaternary science in any discipline. This highest award bestowed by AMQUA honors someone with a decades-long commitment to and positive impact within Quaternary science, and who has worked on North American Quaternary issues for a substantial part of their career.
- Jim Truman, Biology Professor Emeritus, was elected to the National Academy of Sciences for 2022.
- Jon Herron, Biology Associate Teaching Professor, was awarded the Honors Excellence in Teaching Award by the UW Honors Program for the FIFTH (!) time. Honors students determine the annual recipient of our “Honors Excellence in Teaching Award” in recognition of the knowledge, enthusiasm, and dedication these special instructors and mentors bring to the classroom.
- Sue Moore, Biology Affiliate Professor, was nominated by the White House for Commissioner of the U.S. Marine Mammal Commission.
