Two UW Biology members were honored this past June at the Botany 2024 Conference held in Grand Rapids, Michigan:
UW Biology Professor Emeritus Dick Olmstead received the 2024 Asa Gray Award from The American Society of Plant Taxonomists (ASPT). This prestigious award is named after the most influential North American botanist of the 19th century and recognizes a lifetime of achievements in plant systematics. The Asa Gray Award is the ASPT's top honor and recognizes plant systematists who have cultivated a career that has contributed significant research to systematic botany, while making lasting contributions to their community, profession, and students.
UW Biology graduate student Hannah McConnell received the Katherine Esau Award from the Botanical Society of America. The Katherine Esau Award is given to the graduate student who presents an outstanding paper in the Developmental and Structural Section or the Evolutionary Developmental Biology topical session at the annual meeting. Current graduate students are eligible for the award. This award recognizes the influential work of Dr. Katherine Esau and her commitment to students.
Many congratulations to Dick and Hannah!
