I am interested in the genetic architecture of complex traits. Specifically, I want to know how particular genetic architectures allow complex traits to shift and evolve. Currently, I am exploring the mutational landscape of core molecular components underlying mating ability in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae.
With mating ability in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae as a model complex trait, I use deep mutational scanning to score the function of nearly all possible protein variants in these core genes. By testing these mutations in combination, and under several different environmental conditions, I hope to address how additive genetic variation, epistatic interactions, and environmental factors contribute to a complex trait.
