My research interests focus on the the development of the nervous system. Using Drosophila melanogaster, I have previously worked on novel regulators of neuromuscular junction. I have also worked on developing a good drosohila model for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
My current work continues in the fruit fly, and looks at interactions between the epithelium of the body wall and the neurons of the peripheral nervous system. Identifying signaling centers, signaling molecules, and receptors are all present goals. I hope to gain insight into the logic used by neurons to achieve different cell morphologies when they are all exposed to a roughly homogeneous extracellular environment.
