Admissions
Once you are admitted to the University of Washington majors at the UW fall into three categories.
- 1. Open Admission: May be declared at any time
- 2. Minimum Admission Requirements: Require certain prerequisites and/or a minimum GPA.
- 3. Competitive Admission: Require any of the following; Specific GPA, test scores, personal statement, relevant experience, writing sample, recommendations, portfolio, and/or separate applications.
All Biology Majors have Minimum Admission Requirements; these are: - 1. Completion of BIOL 180 or 201 with a grade of 2.5 or better OR completion of BIOL 180, 200, 220 or 201, 202, 203 with a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or better for the series.
- 2. All major coursework completed thus far must average to a 2.0 or better grade point average. This includes any introductory Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Quantitative Science, and Physics you have taken as well as any other courses applicable to the major.

Once you have met the Minimum Admissions Requirements you can pick up your file with a signed Change of Major form from the Gateway Center in Mary Gates Hall or your current department. Bring these to
Biology Advising for us to sign you into the major.
Applying to the University of Washington

An undergraduate admission application is required for all freshmen, transfer and post baccalaureate applicants.
